Armin van Buuren is pressing his own vinyl for [UNVRS]

"I’ve added a vinyl set to the 5-hour show. I’m actually making vinyl, especially for this set," he said in an Instagram reel. No hot cues, no shortcuts: he’s cutting his own edits because the tracks run long, bringing his bag and rotating it week to week.

Inside his weekly five-hour residency at [UNVRS], Armin van Buuren has carved out a stretch played on vinyl only. And not with records he bought: he is pressing his own for the occasion.

"I’ve added a vinyl set to the 5-hour show, it’s going to be very interesting," he said in an Instagram reel. "I’m actually making vinyl, especially for this set. I think with old vinyl, I’ll be bringing my own vinyl as well, but the tracks are pretty long so I’ll be making some edits. But I can’t use my hot cues or the tricks I’m using right now."

The reasoning is not decorative nostalgia: "There’s something magical about the sound of vinyl and the nostalgia it creates. When I started DJing, from 99 to 2005, it was completely unthinkable to DJ with anything else but vinyl." The vinyl stretch will change week to week — "I’m going to plan the sets like every track, so every week is going to be different" — in the same spirit as the vinyl-only A State of Trance set he already played at the venue this summer.
