Grand Velvet defines country-first EDM
British duo Grand Velvet releases their debut single, a rework of “Choosin’ Texas”, and explains their vision of being country artists who make EDM.
Grand Velvet, the duo of two friends with a decade of collaboration, has announced their debut with a reimagining of Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas”, featuring rising vocalist ROBINS. The project is presented as “country-first EDM”, a fusion where country drives the musical creation.
The track arrives as the first piece of a plan that includes a cover of Morgan Wallen’s “Cowgirls”, slated for October 2, and a series of originals with live instruments. The members state that “country is where our songwriting, storytelling, and overall identity come from”.
In the interview they explain preferring to be defined as “country artists who produce EDM”, emphasizing that “the song always comes first”. This hierarchy means melody and story precede electronic production, which serves the narrative.
The duo says the “country-first EDM” space was empty, prompting them to occupy it intentionally. “We saw an opportunity to create something that felt fresh, while still staying true to the music we’ve always loved,” they said.
Grand Velvet concludes their aim is to build their own lane within electronic music, without following trends, and that the upcoming “Cowgirls” release will reinforce the identity they are shaping.
