Richie Hawtin composes the sound of Pradasphere Milan as Plastikman
Richie Hawtin returns to his Plastikman alias to create the soundtrack for Prada's new Milan project, Pradasphere.
The project treats sound as part of the architecture, with pieces responding to the theme and atmosphere of each room while connecting different periods of Prada's history. The soundscape unfolds as visitors move through the eight-floor building located in Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the site where Fratelli Prada was founded in 1913.
Hawtin stated that music is an invisible force that resonates as much with emotions as with the architecture it inhabits. The soundscapes use subtle frequencies and rhythms, felt as much as heard, to extend Prada's aesthetic into a sonic presence that moves with the visitor. This Milan project builds on ideas first explored at Pradasphere II in Shanghai in 2023, with material from that commission now reworked for its new setting.
