Beatport bans fully AI-generated tracks
The store will reject tracks made fully or mostly by a machine and let through the ones that use it as a tool: the finished record has to stay majority human-made. AI-assisted uploads get tagged at submission.
Beatport has announced it will stop accepting tracks generated fully or mostly by artificial intelligence. The line it draws is not «AI yes or no» but who makes the music: AI is fine as a tool, as long as the finished track stays majority human-made.
Uploads made with AI assistance get tagged at submission, so the curation team knows what it is listening to. Rejected tracks will be flagged directly to rightsholders, and the detection leans on an expanded partnership with Beatdapp, the streaming-fraud detection firm.
«There is a difference between a tool that assists human creation and a system that replaces it entirely», said the store’s chief executive, Matt Gralen. Beatdapp co-founder Andrew Batey framed it as bringing transparency to generative AI while protecting human creativity.
The numbers behind the decision explain it: in a recent survey, 60% of DJs said they would not play an AI-generated track and 77% said they prefer to back human creators. Only 8% called themselves open to it.
