Bonobo releases his eighth studio album, Distance in Static, featuring guests Ichiko Aoba and Hundred Waters’ Nicole Miglis. The record carries lyrics in English, Urdu and Japanese, incorporates vintage Iranian samples and a Chinese guzheng, and pushes his global‑spanning sound further into new territories.
Nevertheless, reviewers note the album’s heavy‑handed electronic production and tech‑house beats, especially on the track Cycles. Joy Crookes’ vocal on Always on Your Side is also compared to a Sainsbury’s ad, which some feel detracts from the song’s freshness and undermines its overall impact in listeners.
