Butch finally throws a party of his own on the island
After years playing other people’s parties, the German opens Come To Butch at Chinois: three nights, guests picked by hand and none of the names doing the rounds all summer. The second one lands on Tuesday 25 August with Paramida, Najeh and Shawnecy.
Butch has been playing booths on the island for years, but always as someone else’s guest. Come To Butch is the opposite: a three-night mini-series at Chinois built to his own taste, with none of the usual predictable roll call.
The first one was on Tuesday 18 August, with Demi Riquísimo and Jennifer Loveless b2b Fafi Abdel Nour. The second is Tuesday the 25th, with Paramida, Najeh and Shawnecy. The third arrives with the season already fading: Friday 16 October, with Toman, Bambounou and Carl Bergé.
Anyone who has seen him play knows the deal: deep house one minute, psychedelia the next, then something funky or completely leftfield. He likes to unsettle a night, and a small club is where that actually works.
The campaign runs the same way. Butch has turned up on the posters as a showgirl, a fortune teller, a mermaid, a witch and a cowboy riding a fire-spitting horse. Just putting his face on a flyer, apparently, felt like too little.
