Charlotte de Witte puts an AI voice on 'Azadi'

Charlotte de Witte releases the 'Azadi' EP on 5th November via KNTXT alongside AI-generated vocalist NAVA. Every penny of the proceeds goes to FEMENA.

Charlotte de Witte lands a new EP, 'Azadi', on 5th November through her own KNTXT label: three tracks titled 'Azadi', 'Omid' and 'Tales Of The Desert'. The Belgian signs them alongside NAVA, an AI-generated vocalist built by British-Iranian digital artist Farbod Mehr. All proceeds go to FEMENA, which supports women human rights defenders and feminist movements across SWANA and Asia.

NAVA was created in 2025 and stands for the Iranian women barred by law from singing in public; her visual identity leans on classical Iranian art and folk tradition, with millions of streams behind her and even a hologram appearance. 'Azadi' translates as “freedom” in Persian. The 'Tales Of The Desert' teaser surfaced on Instagram with an AI video shot across vast salt flats.

A friend introduced her to the project, and the idea of lending a voice to those who deserve to be heard did the rest: “Music transcends borders, languages and beliefs. It can carry stories that might otherwise remain unheard. NAVA represents Iranian women banned from public performance. Unlike others, NAVA cannot get arrested for using her voice.” For her, the tracks are, in their own way, “a small act of resistance”.

Not everyone is convinced: some have called the choice “very disconnected” and “tone deaf” for using an artificial voice instead of a real Iranian singer, while others back the message behind it. De Witte already dropped one of the tracks during her surprise set on the Tomorrowland 2026 Mainstage, and has just been voted the world's No. 1 techno DJ.
