Lightning gutted Damian Lazarus’ studio

Damian Lazarus’ studio in Tuscany was destroyed by a fire over the weekend. In a post shared on 9 August on Instagram, the British DJ and Crosstown Rebels boss explained that lightning struck Monastic Studios and started a fire inside the building: the entire room went up in smoke, though the frame held thanks to the fire-resistant soundproofing he had installed himself.
"I’m devastated, of course, but I’m reminded that everything is impermanent," he wrote. "As a wise Buddhist once said, ‘The barn has burned down. Now I can see the moon’." He signed off: "RIP Monastic Studios, we made some magic together that will forever be remembered."
The photos he posted show the gutted interior, with several synths and other production gear inside. What survived is the work: Lazarus confirmed he had just finished his new single and that the project is saved and still due out this year as planned.
