Armin van Buuren stars in new mini‑documentary at UNVRS
The Dutch DJ releases a 10‑minute short exploring dancefloor psychology during his UNVRS residency. Made with psychotherapist Rachel Giddings, it highlights the collective emotion of his five‑hour sets.
Armin van Buuren has unveiled The Psychology of the Dancefloor: An A State of Trance Documentary, a ten‑minute mini‑documentary filmed during his A State of Trance residency at UNVRS Ibiza. The project was created with psychotherapist Rachel Giddings and directed by Izah Muller, offering a psychological lens on the crowd that moves on the floor.
The film examines what happens in fans' minds during the DJ's five‑hour sets, from the emotional intensity of shared musical moments to the connections forged between strangers. "The DJ is often at the centre of attention, but the real magic happens on the dancefloor," van Buuren said in a press statement.
The residency runs every Monday through 5 October, with Armin delivering vinyl‑only sessions each night. September will also feature "face‑to‑face" sets with special guests Hannah Laing, Argy and Eli Brown, while Funk Tribu joins him for the final edition on 28 September.
The documentary caps a busy period for van Buuren, who recently partnered with the responsible AI music company Moises and appeared in drag as "Mystery Queen" on the Dutch TV show Make Up Your Mind. The ten‑minute film is now available on the DJ's YouTube channel for fans to watch.
