Avicii said goodbye in Ibiza, and that was ten years ago
On 28 August 2016 he played Ushuaïa for the last time. He was walking away from touring, and that night on Playa d’en Bossa turned out to be the last of them all. Ten years on, to the day, Stockholm is screening the films of those final two nights.
On 28 August 2016 Avicii played Ushuaïa for the last time. It was not billed as a final goodbye: months earlier he had said he was stepping away from touring, and that Playa d’en Bossa date was simply the end of the calendar. It turned out to be the end of everything.
Three weeks before he had played his last Swedish show, at Tallriken in Malmö, on 5 August. He died in April 2018, in Oman, aged 28.
The anniversary is marked on Friday 28 August at The Node in Stockholm, from 16:00 to 21:00. Two films run in alternation every half hour: one shot on that night in Ibiza, the other in Malmö. There are no slots to book, but you have to be signed up and register beforehand.
Ten years later what is left, beyond the records, is a detail on a map: of all the places in the world where a career like that could have ended, it ended here.
