Sicily opens a club in the middle of the countryside — and it is not closing for winter
SELVA opened on 14 August in an old farmhouse inland from Marina di Ragusa: dry-stone walls, olive trees and an open-air courtyard at its centre. Raresh christened the floor, the трип night passed through on Saturday and Satoshi Tomiie is up on 5 September.
There is a way of opening a club that consists of putting it where there is nothing. SELVA — Club Natura opened on Friday 14 August in the countryside outside Marina di Ragusa, in south-eastern Sicily, inside an old farmhouse: dry-stone walls, olive trees, pale earth and the sea a step away.
The place describes itself, in its own words, as a frontier club, set among living organisms, plants and dry-stone walls. The central space is open-air; inside there are two more rooms, built so the place keeps running through autumn and winter. That is the strange part of the plan: almost no countryside club in the Mediterranean survives outside July and August.
The first month’s calendar is not the calendar of a place that has just started. Raresh christened the floor on opening night and Roi Perez played the day after. On Saturday the трип night came through, with Nina Kraviz, U.R.Trax, Deniro and Praecox live. Satoshi Tomiie is up on 5 September, with dates running deep into the month.
All of it from eleven at night to four in the morning: outdoor party hours, not closed-club hours. Sounds familiar.
