Common Grounds marks 50 years of UK rave culture
Bonington Gallery launches Common Grounds, tracing five decades of the UK free‑party scene. The show features over one hundred never‑seen photographs by Alan Lodge.
Bonington Gallery in Nottingham launches Common Grounds – Counterculture & Confrontation Since 1976, an exhibition running from 25 September to 12 December. The project showcases the work of local photographer Alan Lodge, aka Tash, and brings together over one hundred photographs, moving images and personal archives that chronicle British counterculture and the rise of the rave scene.
Highlights feature iconic shots from the 1985 Battle of the Beanfield, the 1982 Stonehenge Summer Solstice, and the 1992 Castlemorton gathering. The show also displays previously unseen correspondence between Lodge and officials, emphasizing themes of collective identity, civil liberty and public space.
